I remember when I first started taking pictures of butterflies when I was younger, I could only take pictures of the when they were on poop. I would proudly show my parents and they were like "uhm...."

:shrug:I didn't have a very good camera to get nice close-ups then. You had to work with what you got!

Huh, I never thought about butterflies obtaining nutrients from anything other than nectar. Unless it was just getting water from the poo. Anyway, nice capture! I love the clarity of this one. =D

How do you get so close? This was taken with a P&S right?

In this case, walk up, kneel down and shoot...yes.

The insects I try to photograph usually fly away from me by the time I get my camera focused

As disgusting as it is...and I'm kind of sorry I read the description >< lepidoptera do get many nutrients from such things, thus flowers are not always a necessary first choice. ^^;

Nasty, go find a flower! One would expect higher standards from a butterfly :XD:

You're welcome!

Found a cool spider this afternoon. I'm going to post a shot of it tomorrow after my morning shoot. It's red and black and moves along by jumping.
